is MT 180 HMD a good compact?

I am looking for a tractor for my dad's 5 acres (he is not a fix-it guy) He needs a turn the key and drive model. I am not close by to help. Is the Mistubishi hard to get parts and service? I am looking at one that the owner says the hourmeter reads 9xx, but he thinks it stopped working and should have less than 1500. I do not want to buy a project Any ideas?? Thanks Jeff

They are good tractors, but like any tractor how much trouble you have depends on the care the tractor has received. I can supply Mitsubishi parts. Like any brand there may be some obsolete parts, but these would not be common wear items.

thanks for the info, The owner called back and said he checked and the hourmeter is working and it reads 628. I could not go look at it today and it probably will be sold before I return to the area after a (well deserved) vacation. I started looking for a garden tractor for me and a compact for my dad and now it seems to become a hobby. You seem to be able to provide alot of parts from what I have read. I am also looking for a mower deck for my brother's ariens(sp?) It is a 17 hp I know this is not the right site ...but any ideas where to look? (48-60in) Thanks again jeff

i got a mitsubishi d 1850 havent had much use of it as yet. spent the better part of a month fixing it up on week ends when i have time.most of the guys on this site seem to do a lot of their own work to their tractors.i got my tractor from stormer tractors.site used compact tractors, front end loaders, backhoe attachments, implements. he crated and shipped it.he pointed me where to get help to fix the minor problems the tractor came with and gave me some parts. i am satisfied dealing with this dealer.

thanks for the info. I am thinking maybe I may try doing my own repairs, but my dad (although capable) is NOT interested. I need to get him something that can be serviced locally (n-w PA)

maybe it would be best if you look for brands that have a dealership near his home.this way if needs b he can take it in or get the parts there.if cost is not an issue you have lots of options.gray markets are cheaper.and if u get one with lo hrs u may be able to have a lot of use out of it.you will have to find someone to work on it if something go wrong though.jd may not want to touch it. you will have to decide.

I see lots of reference to the gray market. Are these tractors that have rehabbed overseas and resold here? Are most above board and backed by the company selling? Luckily he is not in a hurry for a tractor as I think I can turn looking into a hobby. Thanks for all the good info.

Just so it is clear to everyone: The MT180 is not a gray market tractor. It was built for and sold to the US market when new.

I have one and it is a great little tractor. I just put a set of 31-15x15 turfs on the back and no longer need it to mow so if anyone is interested. Mine is an MT180H (hydro) with 410 hours.

Grays are not necessarily refurbed overseas. As a matter of fact, good used machines are imported and are preferable to the 'paint rebuilds' in my opinion.
