If you can get power to the ignition switch to where the tractor tries to crank over but wont, you can hold down on the ignition key to try and start while at the same time holding down on your joystick, the battery should be able to give the HYP pumps enough juice to slowly lift the FEL off the ground a bit. We have to do that here from time to time for tractors that will turn over but not crank.

That definitely sounds like a good trick to remember. I'm going to try that once I get everything else straightened out. This is a pretty awesome community. Thank you for spreading the knowledge.

FYI: In the old days, before engines had electric starters, owners would have to stand in front of the vehicle and manually “crank” a handle to start the engine. Turning the crank, or “cranking” an engine turns it over. “Cranking” the engine over does not always guarantee that the engine “starts”.
Thank you.

Sincerely,

Walmart tested the battery and it was indeed bad. I put in a fresh battery, first cleaning the terminal clamps and battery terminals, rechecked the oil, crossed my fingers and turned the key. She started right up just like always, I let out a huge sigh of relief. Ran her for a little bit, mowed for a half hour, then checked where I'd degreased to see if there were any leak signs. Nothing was obviously leaking on the left side of the engine where the formerly greasy gear pump is located. I went underneath to the oil pan and found steady dripping on the the right side, followed it upwards and believe the source may be the oil pressure sensor on the right side of the engine behind and above the fuel filter. I am not sure the component that i am seeing is the oil pressure sensor, but it is threaded into the head I believe, has a wire attached to it and is full of oil. Above it is dry, and below it was soaked. It doesn't leak without the engine running, so I'll put the fuel filter back together which I took apart to be able to see behind it, run the engine and report back with my findings.

Wonderful news! That is a huge relief I am sure!

Definitely hugely! Just goes to show what the Florida summertime heat can do to a battery.

Found the source of my oil leak. tractor oil leak - YouTube

I wonder if I ever would have found it in time before damaging my engine, if it wasn't for the battery failure? Now I'll crack open the manual, get a part number to order from my dealer, and try to figure out how to get at this thing with a wrench. It's got a couple things in the way of a deep socket. There's a hose from the oil filter mount, and an injector pipe from the injector pump. Hopefully the manual will give me some clues for wrench size, (I think it's 20mm since a 13/16 is a little big on it) and a good remove/replace procedure.

You and your Youtube hating non sense... A video is a much better option, specially in this case as we can see the sending unit leaking and listen the engine at the same time to hear for any suspicious sounds from running low on oil.

Gaiter, video is absolutely fine. The engine sounds normal to me.

Since the leak is on the oil pressure sending unit, I don't know for sure if the Oil pressure warning light would light up though.
