I have had my JD 2210 for 6 weeks now & only have 13 hrs on the hour meter. It takes me over 2 hours to mow my property& I have mowed 7 times. I have also used it for other yard work. By my estimate it should have close to 20 hours on it. This weekend before mowing I wrote down the time I started mowing & the hours on the meter. I mowed 2 hours & 21 minutes. The hour meter went up by 1.7 hours.

Chevy,

I've had exactly the opposite experience...everything I do seems to make the hour meter spin.

I'd like to blame the meter, but, I just like using this machine!

Cheers!

I don't think they are exactly accurate but they do give some comfort as to the approximate hours. I don't think they vary enough to throw the maintinance schedules off.

Chris, I don't know which type of hour meter the 2210 has. Some tractors have an hour meter that is just an electric clock. It runs whenever the key is turned on, so it should register the actual time the tractor is running. (My B7100 Kubota had that type). The other type is based on engine RPM, and that type usually registers one hour on the meter in one hour of actual time only if the engine is running at PTO speed. In other words, if the PTO speed is 2600 RPM and you're running at 1300 RPM, it would take you 2 hours for the hour meter to register 1 hour. (My B2710 Kubotat had that type). So I guessing the JD 2210 has that type and in that 2 hours and 21 minutes you were mowing, you were not running the engine at full PTO speed all that time.

Needless to say, I would rather have a meter that logs fewer hours rather than more. Would rather have fewer hours if I ever decide to sell the machine. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the replys.
Bird you explained it very well. I mow at about 2000 RPM and it does a fine job at that rpm. The tractor uses alot more fuel at full PTO rpms. I also did the math & it works out fairly close. I am running about 29% under pto rpms & the time on the hour meter is about 29% less than the real time it took me to mow.
I guess the thing to remember if you do work for hire and use the hour meter as your time clock, is to run the tractor at full rpms as much as possible.

Time passes more slowly when I use my 4110. In fact, I think I am looking a little younger every time I use the machine. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's my day job that reverses the effect. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Pete I have just the opposite experience. Time flies when I am on one of my tractors & drags on at my day job.
