Mahindra,4500
HI: anyone : I have a Mahindra 4500 2WD 6-foot HANDY BUSH HOG. After 15 to 20 min's cutting with my bush hog cutter, I notice on my TEMP cage the Hand move over to the center of the cage reading. It has a F in the center. Is this a sign that my tractor is running/getting hot? Is this normal. Where do I need to check to be sure I have enough oil or fluid in the right places, that may be causing this. MY bush hog cuts as good or lower than a push lawn mower. The two bush hog blades cuts low. Could the low cutting be causing my temp reading to go to the center F position. WHAT/WHERE could I check???s

You should ask your dealer for an operator's manual or go on line and download it.

Normally in the center of the temperature gauge does not mean that it is running hot. If the needle is in the red area on the gauge, then it is running hot.

If the needle is just in the middle of the gauge but not in the red, then this is probably normal as it just means that the tractor is working a little harder.

My understanding is that brush hogging kicks up a lot of dust which leads to clogging the dust screen in front of the radiator so you want to keep your eye on it and clean frequently.

Thanks all for your reply. I finally found my transmission bolt\stick. After pulling it out, it appear that my transmission fluid is very/very low. I have a Mahindra 4500 2WD. Can someone tell me what weight transmission fluid I need to put in this tractor. I screw out the transmission gage stick and it has no fluid on it at all. How much fluid do I need to put in. The transmission gage stick has two rings at the bottom of the stick. Do I add until it reach between the two rings? Or can I go a little past the two rings. What is a good addictive to put in my DISEL to cut down on the rust and other @#*% residing in DISEL?

It is not good to run a tractor low on hydraulic fluid. I would put enough fluid in to get to the middle of the two rings. Going up to the top ring should not be a problem but going higher would be. The only reason anyone would want to overfill the fluid is if it had a leak and that is a much bigger problem anyway.

Use the fluid called for in your manual.

You should fill it up until it is at the top ring, or a little higher. You loose a little from the big oil sump the gauge stick is located when you add implements the first time you hook them up to fill their cyl's and lines. And you also have some come out when unhooking/hooking up quick connects. Sometimes more than other, depending. The temp gauge needle commonly goes to half scale when it gets up to the temp your coolant thermostat is set for. If it goes higher, then worry. Keep all your screens and radiator blown off as good as possible.
