Default Is my Well pressure switch wired right?
Hi, Today I decided to clean out the tube that the Well pressure switch is connected to ( Completely clogged not sure how it was working ) and I cleaned up the switch.
I have a Sta - Rite SK 2 switch which I adjusted to be a 40/60. I also have a 1/2 HP 230 Volt well pump.

Now I have had no problems but my wiring does not seem to be like anything I have seen on the net.

The first pic is of my cover
2nd is my switch
3 and 4 are samples off the Net.
Mine is wired 2 out side posts to a 2 pole 20 amp breaker and the middle wires go to my Pump.
I did attach wires better when I put it back together.

That's the way every pressure switch I've ever seen is wired. The outside two are the incoming power, L1 and L2.
The inside pair are the feed out to the pump (or control box if you have one)

3rd pic seems wire wrong, unless that is a different switch than I've ever seen.

4th pic seems correct.

Okay so mine is right? I could switch the two power wires ( White and black from breaker box ) with each other and also switch the two motor wires ( White and Black center wires ) with each other and it would be fine?

Why do the pictures I took from the net have black with black and white with white? It appears they dont have the motor hooked to both center screws which the label says they are for the motor.

I am trying to learn and I thank you guys for the help

All the switches are effectively hooked up the same,
If you numbered the terminals 1, 2, 3, 4, from left to right the cover diagram has;
#1 being L1 with #2 to the motor from L1, #4 being L2 with #3 to the motor from L2.

The switch its self doesn't care if L1 is terminated on #1 or #2 as long one is power and the other goes to the motor.
The same as L2 could be on #3 and the motor on #4.

As long as the two power leads are not on the same pair any combination will work.
The normally accepted wiring is as the cover shows.

The switch functions by closing 1 & 2 together and 3 & 4 together on low pressure and opening those contact pairs on high pressure.

As long as L1 and L2 are not on the same pair it will function fine.
If you put L1 and L2 on the same pair when that switch is closed you will have a short circuit and the switch contacts will be fried and putting on a light show until your breaker trips, lots of smoke and arcing. Not desirable.

What Lou says.
Each cable has a wire to each side, any terminal on that side.
You’d know in about 3/60’s of a second if you had wired it wrong.

Seems right as others have noted...except for the horrible job the installer did. That one wire looks like it is barely held by the edge of the screw head! I would kill the breaker, undo all of those wires, strip a bit more, bend a loop and loop them around each screw. Loop clockwise so the free end pulls in as you tighten.

The wires are correct and it will work, but the job is subpar and not to code. The white wire should have colored tape on it (black, red, blue) so it isn’t white. On that size wire tape is code. Bigger wire and you would need the correct color the entire length. Romex isn’t allowed outside a wall or conduit. The wire should be in conduit. The ends of the wires should be curled in a “J” shape around the screws. That looks like a Class A homeowner install....

The pressure switch actually is a dual switch in that the left is separate from the right.
However being AC it works.
Both whites should actually be on the same side (left) with both blacks on the right.

In fact U could actually have either the white or wired in a marette and the pump would work.
They use dual switching to handle the current and minimize sparking that eventually pits the contact points and ends up literally welding the contacts.

You should never switch colors. 2nd picture switches colors. White should stay white and Black should stay black. It will work the way it is but it should not be done this way. Left two screws complete one connection. Right two complete the other.

Also, the wires should enter the pan head screw on the left (so the twist goes with tightening) and CURL under the pan head to get the best contact. I remove the screw (if possible) and curl around the screw head and get as much metallic contact as posssbile. I would cuss a blue streak if I found the second picture. Not enough wire under the screw head.

4th picture is the best installation. Lots of metal under the screw head.
