Snow Is snow as slick as wet grass? A BX2660 Tale.

I live on a hill in Ky. Not much snow. No snow plow or front/rear blade. Snowed 2 or 3 inches and slid all the way down the hill in my WRX Subaru Wed and almost never made it back up. Should have drove the Dodge Dakota 4wd. Guess a Subaru Pocket Rocket with High Performance tires isn't for snow covered hills. My drive is packed snow now and need to get out tomorrow. Have a BX2660 MMM FEL here but remembered one time getting my B7800 out on wet grass and it was a rather frightening experience as it slide down my yard with no control. Got BX out with turf tires and did my drive, my brothers drive, the street down to the curve and then down the street going down the hill then the street at the bottom. More than 1 mile total. Even took it out of 4wd and up to Rabbit on the lower street with bucket lowered and angled and front wheels off the ground most of the way on that street.. Spun one time on me coming back up the hill when one front tire got on a ice patch but never made another hiccup. Fantastic. It was low snow packed to almost ice all the way and it did a great job. So, wet grass is slicker than snow on a down hill slope.

Sounds like one heck of a hill. I have slid tractors down hills on wet grass but it was more of a cliff than a hill. What y'all call a hill in Kentucky we would call a cliff in Ohio. I live close enough to Kentucky to see what you guys mow. Your pucker factor is far beyond what I would ever want to have.

I live in the Snow Belt and it is hard to describe the different kinds of snow in relation to slipperyness. Around freezing , at 32 degrees you have to watch for Black ice which you don't even realize is there which is very deadly. Also when it gets down around zero there is a whole different consistency in the snow which is another situation waiting disaster. As for grass...... You are not going to be going 55 MPH on it.......No dents in my vehicles in the last ten winters... Hope this isn;t A BAD OMEN....

I can handle snow and wet grass. I can't handle ice. After having a loader with steel tracks slide sideways down a hill I was forever done with ice. The cleats on steel tracks become sled runners when sideways on an icy hill. Anything that can overcome steel tracks with cleats is not to be messed with.

I was going to take pictures but it was to cold. Here's some pictures of the hill and the street below. Couldn't find pictures that show much. One is drive way, one shows Steve Barlow on L3240 leaving (just delivered B3200) and the lower street I did was behing the tractor in front of the houses and the other shows house on the hill from a mile away.

No, around here snow is abrasive as 30 grit sandpaper! You should see what snow does to old wood snowshoes. You need to revarnish them almost each time you use them.

Chains make a big difference especially the v bar type on ice.Thats whats going to keep you on track.there not like steel cleats [that act like sleigh runners] the v-bars bite in every way just think about all the semi's you see driving in the mountains hauling logs etc: you look they all carry chains and put them on when they need to.So to you answer yes v-bar chains make a world of difference on ice and snow. The problem isn't the Subaru, its the tires. Get a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta (on a 2nd set of wheels), and that will transform the your WRX into a winter-rally car.

I run these on my BMW 3-series (RWD),and on the wife's MINI Cooper S (FWD). I have shamed many AWD/4WD drive vehicles on slipper roads with both cars with these tires. I have a 4WD pickup (w/o winter tires on it), and it stays in the garage when the roads get slick, the cars with winter tires do better, so long as ground clearance doesn't become a problem.
