For me there SUDT is too high priced for a blended fluid...There are better products for less.

SWo3,
I hadn't heard from you in a while!! Re SUDT it gets down to minus 25 degrees F on occasion and below zero F on a regular basis and I know SUDT works.

sw03, on this point, I am going to agree. It is awfully high priced. My BX absolutely needs the quick flow and the other properties that SUDT provides over a more generic Kubota UDT or other even more generic UTF.

But, I honestly believe that if I was facing $50+ for 2.5 gallons, $100+ for a 5 gallon pail, as others here have posted, I would exercise other options, and there are other options. So far, I haven't had to face those kind of prices.

Yes, S UDT works but there are better fluids..in your case better/lower pour points too.

Find a Amsoil dealer...You can get a case of there tractor fluid for about $75.....And yea, it will be better the SUDT...SUDT is nothing "synethetic"..LOL

SUDT is not synthetic, that is correct. It is a multiweight hydraulic oil, 10w20 is it's classification.

Std UDT is a single weight, 20w hydraulic oil.

SUDT has a higher boil point than std UDT which also makes it a better oil for hot climates, but this usually gets lost in these debates :D

There are better oils, AMSOil and Chevrons Syn Hydro oil but they are more expensive which, by the logic being used in this thread makes it a negative :D

Carry On

Different transmissions/pumps, etc. are designed for different fluids. Just because a particular hydraulic fluid is "better quality" doesn't mean that it's better for your particular piece of equipment.

Kubota does NOT recommend their UST or SUDT for their min excavators. They recommend Shell or Exxon fluids.

JD recommends their MOTOR oil for hydraulic fluid in their skid steers, and they do not recommend the first hydraulic oil change until 1000 hours!

Would I use JD oil in my Kubota tractor for hydraulic fluid? No. It's probably not designed for it.

Would I use SUDT in the skid steer? No

Would I use SUDT in the Kubota mini ex? No

Will I use SUDT in the Kubota RTV-900 or other HST unit that gets used in cold weather? Yes. Will I use it in a gear tractor that doesn't get used in cold weather? No.

Yes, SUDT is a bit expensive but how often do you change the fluid and how many gallons do you need? How much money are we talking about, an extra $25 or $50 per year on a $15,000 or more piece of equipment?

I would be surprised if Kubota phases out SUDT, at least without a recommended alternative. I doubt they would recommend a third party alternative when they can make a middle man profit on SUDT. Of course, I have been wrong a time or two.

I know that's right! I figure it's the snow flakes on the label. :D:D
The misperception that sudt is "only for those guys up north" is widespread.

I keep reading about Chevron's Syn Hydro oil. A Google search turns up many different Chevron Syn Hydro Oils. What is the Chevron Syn Hydro oil?

It is synthetic tractor/hydraulic/transmission fluid that gets rave reviews. It would be a natural replacement and perhaps a superior product to SUDT. However, it is only available on the left side on the nation, it seems, and is EXPENSIVE, thus, it isn't going to be a realistic candidate for most folks. Reports that it only comes in huge drums is also not encouraging.
