I have a small horse operation on 80 acres and I am trying to figure out if the TC40DA will suit my needs. There is one coming up at auction soon and I'm wondering if it is worth my while.

Mainly I'll need something to do the following:

- run my 5' bush hog over the pastures.
- run my 6' snow blower in the winter.
- run the post hole auger
- the usual FEL tasks like moving manure and light landscaping.
- possibly in the future I will move to large round/square bales of hay (we use small squares currently) and would want to move these around.

It is the hay moving which has me most concerned as I'm not sure the TC40DA could handle that.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

while I'm not sure about the loader specs on the tc40, with a 3pt bale spike it'll haul big bales around all day. Depending on which size of round bale, it might be able to pick them up with a front spike as well.
the other 4 items will be well within its capabilities.

good luck at the auction!

I think that machine will be ok for what you mention. though with 80 ac.. getting one larger.. say int he 50hp range.. you deffinately won't hurt.

if she don't move hay, just show her the following pics of my old fords from 1955 moving round bales on 1-arm loaders... that should shame your tc40 into moving the hay.. ;)

I also have the NH TC40DA. I have had it now for over three years with just under 300 hours on the meter. I run a six foot finish mower and bush hog on her without any problems. The FEL is Bush Hog brand model 246. I am able to pick up some pretty heavy boulders with it. I have not had any problems with the tractor and find new ways to use her all the time.

Good luck on your decision. Keep us posted!

I love my TC40DA. It is a good size tractor for your needs. I'm assuming that you are buying your hay. I wouldn't use my tractor to pull a baler. More a weight than power issue. The hydro is really nice for loader work.

Lots of good info on this tractor (and series) here. Good luck with the auction.
