Hmmm....
Among other things, that 1/4 acre per person means we would have no need for our tractors any more. My family of 4, for example, would only be entitled to one acre. We'd have to sell off the other 41 acres. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
And unless I'm reading it wrong (always a possibility), folks need a whole lot more than a place to live. In our decadent society, for example, we also need space for our stores, shopping malls, schools, hospitals, industry, farms and ranches. Who among us wants to go through life without our ball parks or stadiums? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The parking lots alone would take up many a square mile. And, of course, it takes even more square miles of roads and highways just to get around.
And I believe there's a few acres here and there that are simply not habitable. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Not to belittle the spirit of the article, I think it would be interesting to figure out just how much acreage a person in the real world actually does require. It would take some averaging, fer sure, since there are some families currently living in cardboard boxes, while others live on luxurious estates, and I don't think individual vegetable gardens are a particularly efficient way to set up a society.
The world is not overpopulated -- just poorly managed. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
