Is there a way to find year model by serial number?

My local dealer hasn't been very helpful in determinging the exact model year of our MF. He says it doesn't really matter, that it falls in the range of 1997 thru 2005 - but I'd really like to know.

It's a model 271 and the SN is 9640J07142 (the "0"'s appear to be zeroes). Made in Turkey, with a Perkins diesel.
