Is there a way to run the tach on a MF 204 if the gen. has been switched to an alt?

Tractor
Massey Ferguson 204
Greetings! I am a new member to the forum, although I have flipped through the threads many times looking for info, advice & direction. Now that I finally have a tractor I decided it was time to finally register. I have an Industrial Massey 204 gas tractor & the generator has been replaced with an alternator. Consequently the tach is not hooked up (I see the cable, & a friend told me it used to go into the back of the generator.) Although it isn't absolutely necessary, it bothers me when things don't work simply because they aren't hooked up (especially instruments) - Basically, I was curious if there is some kind of retro-fit kit, a different tach, or is the only solution to go back to the generator? Any help would be much appreciated

Get an alternator from late MF 175 or 180 diesel, also AC 190XT some used alt with tach drive like you need, will also need separate volt reg as will not be 10SI with internal reg. May need to change pulley so tach reads right.

Thank you much. I will give that a try. Just knowing what to look for saved me an awful lot of headaches.
