Is there a wireless router that I can connect an outside HDTV antenna, that sends the HDTV signal to televisions throughout the house?

I have a large outside antenna which is receiving a good HDTV signal. I was hopping not to have to run coaxial cable to the different rooms because some are outside foam walls.

THANKS!

NO THere are late night TV gadgets stay away from them You are still receiving a RF signal and RF likes COAX. Use some good RG6 and go at it. Or try rabbit ears!!! The new signal propagation are very differnt than the old analogs.

Thanks Danocheese. I do believe you are right, I couldn't find anything on google and was wandering if I was using the wrong terminology.

txdon,

If you do run RG-6, depending on how many sets you're going to hitch up and your signal strength you'll need a preamp and splitters. The preamp goes up at the antenna and is back powered from an adapter in the house. The splitter you use should have the appropriate number of ports ( no extra because the signal strength is divided among them) and be power passing. Good luck.

There are some very good wireless video sending/receiving units that will send a video signal wirelessly through walls and such. They don't send antenna signals, just video signals. I have used them with good success.

If you're going to run RG6 throughout your home, do yourself a favor and run TWO RG6 cables and two CAT5 computer cables to each location from a single location in your house (sometimes referred to as a head end). You can then use the RG6 cables for and in and an out and use the computer cables for computer or telephone (yes, some folks still have wired phones).

For example, in our house, we have both a dish and an antenna mounted on the garage. I feed the antenna and dish into a diplexer and combine the signals onto one coax to our head end combiner in the basement. I then feed to our living room from the head end combiner over one coax. In the living room, I have another diplexer and seperate the dish and antenna signals to feed the dish box and digital converter box. I send the output of the dish back out of the living room over channel 3 back to the combiner at the head end. That way, I can put any other TV in the house on channel 3 and watch what is on the dish. I do the same thing for the DVD/VCR on channel 4. The TV in the living room is the only one that has HD, so I do not notice any display issues in the bedroom, laundry or garage. Also, I can put the dish on one of the music channels and listen to stereo music on all of the TVs in the house. There's lots you can do. Just do some research before your start poking holes in your walls.

Tex,

I have an HD home run receiver in the attic connected to my Yagi antenna. The HD homerun receives the digital OTA signal from the antenna and converts it to IP. I run cat 5 from the HD homerun receiver through a chase down to to my wireless router in the basement where it's available to a windows client (or Windows Media server ...packaged with Windows 7) running on my PC. The PC audio/video is connected to my HD TV. It will also run on any PC in the house running the client.

I get about 40 channels here in the NY metro area. I figure I save about $1k a year on cable. :D

keegs, Thanks for the info, now I have a ton of other questions! I got lost when the OTA signal is converted to IP.
1. What is IP?
2. I have a apple airport express router from the internet signal that I get via a separate line of sight antenna. The satellite antenna wire goes to a central box (home run?) that has a phone looking like wire that goes to the apple router in another central room. I also have a apple TV box at the TV that receives the internet signal. That phone wire is also in every room. There is also a wire in the central box that is some sort of white round wire that cable or satellite TV would use. Can any of this be used?
3. Can I get the local TV signals from the internet signal?
4. Will the HD home run send the OTA signal digitally to the Apple TV box that is connected to the TV?

first -- you said you didnt want to run wires because of foam? I am assuming they are only on the outside walls of house and why not run wire from antenna down to basement and then into the house up the interior walls that has no foam on them?

Second- instead of messing around with OTA convereting to home network IP requiring knowhow and networking knowledge- why not just take advantage of your home network and use video streaming like netflix, hulu, etc to your apple pcs/ipad?

Third - if you want to read a good article its here http://manuals.makeuseof.com.s3.amazonaws.com/for-mobile/media-center-guide.pdf

the password to download is makeuseof .

There are devices that will wirelessly transmit an HD source to another wireless receiver, but not for over the air broadcast. They do make amplified HD antennas to hook to each TV. I use a Rocketfish wireless HD transmitter to transmit my Directv into the kitchen tv. I sent just a suggestion to them. They returned an email saying the idea has merit. Maybe on day they will. HDTV is so wide in broadband that it would be rather pricy to rebroadcast an entire TV spectrum to make your home wireless. Your best and only option is. To put up a quality over the air antenna and route to each tv thru coax.

Thanks radioman & the kid, I do use netflix and love the old shows (Star Treck the Next Generation). I have no basement, I'm on a slab. Because of no frost heaving problems 99% of the homes have no basements in Texas.

The foam is only on the outside walls and I need to place the TVs in the 2 bedrooms on the outside wall. Rabbit ears do not pick up all the channels, that is why I had to go with a big outdoor antenna. I have the antenna currently hooked to one living room TV. Splitters and amplifiers will probably be the way to go to get live local TV. I do not need TV access on my laptop and when streaming from the apple router all other internet uses are very very slow.

Thanks for the links I will study them to see what other option are out there, I'm learning a lot already, I knew TBN would come through.
