IH 274
I have a IH274 with bushhog. My current property is vertical (very hilly) and the locals tell me with 20+" clearance the 274 will probably roll over. A local repair set me up with someone that would trade for a IH464 10" clearance thus lower center of gravity. Here is the deal
My 274. 3 cyl diesel, 1400 hours, cultivators, fertilizer distributor in cherry condition. Well taken care of and always kept in barn.
His 464, 3 cyl diesel, 3400 hours, 5ft plow/grader freshly sprayed in red but looks rough, missing lights, 3 pt stabilizer bent on one side and broken off on other. Seems to run okay with no obvious leaks on test drive. The current owner bought to flip, painted and doesn't really know about the tractor's capability or background.
464 owner is willing to trade but wants $1000 in addition to my 274 . There is some value to not rolling over:thumbsup:. Anyone have a thought on this deal?

For starters, we need more details. Fill out your profile with things like where you are located. Equipment values vary by location.

Second, what are your intended uses OTHER than bushhogging a hilly area. AND how many acres is this to bushhog and how many acres do you own.

Going from a 274 to a 464 is a pretty good step up in tractor size. Almost twice the PTO power and the 464 weighs about 5100lbs with no attachments, So is trailering going to be a problem for you????

If it runs good, 3400 hrs is not really a lot. Did you mention wether it was diesel or gas???

If you dont really NEED a tractor that large, it is going to be more expensive to operate. And the 5' grader blade is probabally a little small for a 464. And do you plan on keeping your bushhog?? cause the 464 will probabally handle a 6 or 7 foot cutter.

I know I am giving you a lot to think about, but what is YOUR tractor worth?? How much could you sell it for locally??? What do you think THAT 464 is worth, or how much cash would it take to buy without the trade??? Cause the 464's around my neck of the woods are around 4000-5000 used is average condition. And if you are happy with the size of your tractor and don't really want a bigger tractor, you can always keep an eye out for an N ford or similar. They are pretty stable on the hills due to being low and having a wide stance.

i would think atleast where i live the 274 would be about a 7500 dollar to 8500 dollar tractor and worth about 2000 plus more than the 464

Denis, I would walk away from this "deal", I think they are trying to take advantage of you.
You don't give your loacation but a 274 with the cultivators and side-dressers is highly sought after in areas where they grow vegetables/tobacco or nurery stock, especially with low hours.

Did you just relocate to the area and how did you come to own the 274? Do you have a need to use it with the cultivators and fertilizer dresser?
If you don't need it for that purpose I would look to sell it privately to someone in an area where that kind of high clearance tractor is in demand. THEY DON'T MAKE THAT TYPE OF TRACTOR ANYMORE, and it will command a high price with only 1400 hours. If you just moved to the area I would be wary of "locals" offering to help until you get to know who can or cannot be trusted. Take your time and you will end up with a much better deal. A rough looking tractor that someone bought just to flip is usually not a good deal.

I'd walk away, too. I think they want to trade and then "cash out" on your 274. Probably you should cash out on yours and then get something more desirable for your needs.
