Is This a Good Price for MIG?

Just saw this on Craigslist Lincoln SP180T with tank and cart. $600

Seems to have good reviews - not sure what a cart or tank adds to the deal.

Lincoln SP 180T Mig Welder

The tank is for your MIG mix gas.... what size tank? and what hydro test date? This is important you will need a tank if you are going to do true MIG If you intend to just run flux core (not as pretty welds, more spatter, but no gas needed and can weld outside )... A 125 Cubic foot tank is close to $200 at most places. 80 is a little less maybe 150. The Cart is good to have too.. you will either have to buy one or build one, or at least you will want to. You could just lug that thing around.. but a cart will sure make it a lot easier. If the Hydro test date (now usually good for 10 years) is out of date. the tank will have to be retested. Also would be good to know if the seller owns the tank and therefore can be sold or does gas supplier own it..? lots of questions.

By my eye the tank looks to be an 80 CU ft. so if owned it would cost about $150. the cart is worth about 50 bucks new. the Lincoln is about 669 at Home Depot. So you have about 870 bucks worth of stuff new..
it is a T model so the voltage is "tapped" meaning you have a fixed number of voltage settings. Not continiously adjustable but I think most people get along fine with them. I have never used one so cannot say. The continiously adjustable ones are more money. It is probably an OK deal, but not a knock your socks off deal. Also how much gas pressure is left in the bottle? 1000? 1500, maybe 2000? that could be worth almost 50 bucks also.

Don't ever be afraid of tank testing It runs about $20.00 if you go direct , more if you go through a dealer.

I had one dealer charge me $50.00 and it took 4 weeks. I found the company that did the testing they charged me $20.00 while I waited. I was home in an hour.

Thanks for your input, spoke with the owner and he purchased the 4-foot tall tank (80cu??) from Airgas recently so it can be refilled. Just need to decide if I'll get $600 worth of use from it.

No the 46 or 47 inch tanks are the 125.cu ft. so more expensive. makes the deal a little sweeter. offer him 500 550.. and I bet he would take it.

Ya know, sometimes it seems like this forum would be floundering all over the place without your 'non-professional' guidance, Shield...
