I know it sounds like a silly question, but on JD's price config, for the 410 loader, under accessories it has a line item

Tines and hardware for material bucket CODE 9070 Price $207

Not compatible with BW14144

Is it a toothbar? Is it bolt on / removable? Appears cheaper than Carver.

Will this work with the 53" bucket?

Hazmat,

I don't think the tines are likely to work as a toothbar. The JD Manual for the 410 loader has a brief section on installing tines. The manual says "Tines are used to convert a materials bucket to handle manure." There is a picture of the tines. They are not heavy duty.

I have the Carver toothbar-about 285 delivered for the 49 inch bucket. It is 10 times more stout than the tines shown in the JD manual. If anyone has a scanner, the picture of the tines is on page 40-2 of the manual for the 410/420 loaders.

Well, they're kinda like a toothbar but just for handling lighter materials.

Order a toothbar from Carver or Canary and you will increase the usability of your FEL 10 fold. The only time I remove mine is during the winter. I find it much easier to move snow without the toothbar.

A caveat with the toothbar - it becomes a weapon of mass destruction. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif You have to pay more attention to the front end of your tractor when making turns. It's pretty darned easy to forget about those extra 6 or so inches of sharp metal. There have been a few threads concerning this issue. In each case, it was an "oops" followed by some high-level miltary style language. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hazmat,

When I bought my Deere, I asked about toothbars for my 70 bucket. The dealer showed me a picture from a catalog. The tines looked like spears, quite different than those sold by Carver etc. The dealer also mentioned that he'd never sold one of those things.

Chris...

Are you sure the dealer didn't show you "manure tines"?

Great for pulling thick brush out of the ground, but very poor for digging purposes...

I was very surprised that the JD dealer who sold me my 410 loader didn't carry any toothbar accessories (they had lots of other 3rd party 3-point catalogs to order from, etc) and really didn't know that much about them. He also showed me the manure tines, but at least he knew they were not for digging.

I found a dealer who deals in excavation equipment (vs. the more typical Ag-oriented JD dealer) who knew a lot more about toothbars and even had a bunch in stock designed for skid-steer buckets. However none of them fit the 61" JD bucket exactly (they had a 60" that could have been made to work).

I ended up ordering mail order and luckily it showed up in a few days.

I agree that the toothbar increases the capability of the little 410 loader by about 10x (especially in the monolithic chunk of clay I am trying to build a house on).

[ Now to just find somebody who can provide slightly larger diameter cylinders configured to fit the 410 loader for just a little more break-out and lift force. ]

John,

You are right, after looking at your photo, he did. That FEL is quite something with those skinny support bars.

Buck...

Those skinny arms were still stronger than my skinny arms... /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

See everything has a reference in life... prior to this "loader" I had nothing and this was a major advancement for me... (and certainly better than all my shovels and wheel barrel combined...)/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I kinda miss the ole gal... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I do too. I miss many things and times of earlier years.

Life is great!
