Looking at 5 ft tandem disc for my B3030 (30 hp). Land Pride has two 5 ft models, DH1060 and DH1560. The DH1060 weights 533 lbs while the DH1560 is 629 lbs.

On the land pride site, you can filter the "B" series to select attachments and only the DH1060 appears. Do you think the extra 100 lbs would be too much for the B3030? Anyone have a B3030 and one of these discs?

For now, I'm planning on working about 6 x 1 acre sites and planting nectar sources for my bees.

Why not just use the tiller in your avatar?Disc's set aggressive are a tough pull.I do ten acres a year with my tiller, one pass after plowing...still faster than muliple passes with a disc.

I'd personally stay with the slightly smaller version of the 5' models. Hard for me to judge the extra power, lift and oomph of a 3030 over my little 20 series B. This 4' model is all I can handle. I'm thinking the recommendation of Land Pride, in coordination with Kubota, are fairly accurate with their matchups, no?

I'm thinking that breaking new ground might be too rough on the tiller and discing some before working each time would go a little easier on the tiller.

Looks like you got turfs on your 3030. The traction isn't too great to pull a heavier disc so I would go with the smaller one. If you had ag tires it would pull the heavier disc. If your ground is rocky its a nice idea to disc and pick up rocks before you till. But if your land isn't very rocky that tiller will do the job. Just mow it nice and low before you start tilling. What are you going to plant? Clover? Buckwheat?

No rocks here, a sandy loam mix and no clay. Just thought I might over work the tiller. I wish it would rain as we are in an "extreme drought". I plan to plant yellow sweet clover and buckwheat. Had a 1/3 plot of buckwheat in June and the bees covered it up. I need to plant something that blooms little later but haven't figured out what that may be. I planted about 20 vitek this spring and most have survived with weekly watering and I plant to transplant another 20 to 40 next spring.

You may want to look at a box-blade.Use the rippers to bust up the virgin soil then till.At least the box blade will have other uses.I found the three point disc on these small tractors about useless, now large disc on a Ag tractor is something else.I use an old Ford two bottom plow and then till.If that ever breaks beyond repair I will use my box blade.

The good thing about a 3 PH disc is if your tractor is struggling with it because the disc is too heavy and cutting too deep, then you can always raise the lift to carry some of the weight. If it is too light to cut then it is pretty well useless. I would go with the heavy duty model and if needed carry some of the disc weight which will give you additional traction also. Remember that just because a disc has 20" blades doesnt mean you have to try and cut 10" deep while dragging dirt over the axles.

IMO turf tires will just slip trying to pull a disc unless it's a light disk. I'd just use the tiller and go slower. You're not going to lose any time as it's either multiple passes with disc and then tiller or single pass with tiller but abit slower. I pull a 12' disc with a 50 HP with AG's and if the soil is even slightly wet or already loose I'll spin to a point.

Turfs will pull good in dry dirt but not any good on grassy or muddy soil. I think he would be ok if he hit it very lightly on one pass just to stir up some dirt to hide the grass then his turfs would pull better. Personally I wouldnt buy a tractor with turf tires even for mowing. 4 WD might be a bit better but on a 750 JD(2 WD) with turfs, it will spin out in a cow patty or on grass when mowing if you turn too sharp. I will take Ags for tillage and industrials for all around compromise tire.
