Tractor
Pasquali 988
Hello I have a DR 3PT chipper that has worked well for me on my 15hp Iseki tractor but I have upgraded to a larger tractor (Pasquali 988) and the PTO speed on it only goes to 750 where as the Iseki has a higher speed. Its too slow for us now, I tried a different chipper (Patu) but it unfortunately is set up more for chipping large trees (shoot down low) and is back breaking to put a lot of small branches in it.

So the DR has only one blade on the fly wheel, I am wondering if it would be possible to modify the flywheel to allow putting a second or even two more blades on the flywheel. This is beyond my ability but is this something a machine shop would be able to do?

Thanks

It sounds like more work than it is worth. If you do it, you should also make the flywheel much heavier too, to keep down drive-line shocks.

Hi well I was looking at this guy's posting on how he made his own chipper and appears pretty straight forward for someone who works with metal.

Steve Bedair's Wood Chipper

Use a torch to cut the slot, machine out a grove for the blade and drill and tap the mounting holes then balance it...

I can take it apart and resemble, I just cant do the modification to the flywheel.

Does anyone make an adapter for the PTO to increase the RPM's, like an overdrive unit?

a belt and pulley system would probably work better than gears in this application.

It should be easier to build than modifying the chipper I'd think.

I was under the impression DR chippers were designed for 540 pto speeds, perhaps I was wrong?

The newer DR I looked at was designed for 540rpm.

Well I dont have an engine Tach on either tractor so not sure what speed Im really running them at. I checked the manual on the Iseki and the 2nd PTO speed says its 752 and the Pasquali im running on teh 750 pto speed but obviously engine speed can make a difference. Either way on teh Pasquali it runs slower and is slower than death to chip, its like watching mushrooms grow. Im looking for a better alternative but not much for options around Maine and the second chipper I bought doesnt do what I want any better.

If you add anthing it has to be done so the unit as a whole / flywheel
remains balanced. I doubt just 2 will work, maybe 4, so as to keep it
balanced. I believe there are other considerations as well, as in to offset
blades or not to.

I think it might be best to put it up for sale and take your winnings
and ungrade to a new and improved unit.
