Not sure about the pitch content of the log in question...one of the assets of pine is the ability to accept stains...it can be made to look like a lot of more expensive woods with similar grain patterns...
IMO the best way to increase the value of a singe log/beam (over milling it into RS lumber)...is to hew it...i.e., take an adz to it...sawn and resawn beams are easy to find...hand hewed beams are special and demand a premium price...!
