I've been looking for a 2 bottom plow for awhile replace my single bottom John Deere. This one just turned up on Craigs List. He's got the whole thing spray painted blue. He says it's a Ford. Admittedly, I don't know much about plows, but I always thought Ford's had curved mounts. This one looks more like my JD. Any ideas? How does this one look to you?

That's a Ford 101 plow. One of the most sought after old plows around. Parts are easy to find and inexpensive. Great price by the way - I've seen that plow in worse shape for $800-$1000. This one looks to be in fantastic shape with little wear on the shins and shares. If you're in the market, I'd jump on it.

Yep, I have a ford 101 3 bottom just like that without coulters. I don't know why people insist on painting these things though, I'd rather see what I'm "really" getting, rust and all.

 Can't beat that advice. That's for sure a Ford and with or without paint it will last 50 years easy. Jump on it!

I looked at the ad, it's been posted at least twice before. I thought about going over an looking at it because it's just around the corner but I really don't need a 2 bottom plow. I'm not sure why he painted it, he also has/ had a set of disk harrows that he also painted blue.

Yep, a Ford 101 for sure.

As for painting, it is a matter of taste. I clean my tools and tractors often as well.

Which of the plows in the photos would you pay more for?

The one with the new shares, shins, but not because of the off-shade paint.

Thanks all, I bought the Ford 101 two bottom. The guy took my JD 25 single off my hands for $100 as well. I probably could have gotten a little more, but I could never get that plow to run right. I had to push it so far to the right on the beam to get the furrow on the tractor wheel edge. It always steered the tractor to the side, and honestly the whole plow just seemed to pull way harder than it should. Is it true that the wheel base on decent sized CUT can just too wide to rig a single bottom optimally?

Yeah, I have to admit the new paint job caught my eye. This guy knew how to sell the sizzle. But it turned out to be in really good shape on the wear parts. I'm happy with it. I hope I can get it to run well on my rig. I don't have draft control. I'd never seen an adjustable cross bar lever before, to change the width of cut. I had to actually see it to appreciate how simple it really is.

You'll love the Ford. John Deere plows have a reputation for being hard pulling s.o.b.'s so don't sweat it.
