I don't even know the proper name for this plant but it amazes me at how fast they can grow. They are not even showing out of the ground in the evening and the next morning they are over a foot tall.

They are very pretty when they are fresh but they do not last long before they wilt.

tallyho8,

japody is CORRECT ! ! They are called Naked Ladies. My wife has about 50 of them in a flower bed in the back yard. The first part of the plant comes up in the spring. That will die off. Then about 4 to 6 weeks later the flower stem comes up and blooms. They are a bulb type plant and reproduce by multiplication of the bulb. they MAY spread a bit, but if you want to give some away or transplant to a new bed, the best time to do it is in the fall after the flower stem has died. They will come back every year UNLESS there has been a VERY hard and deep frost that kills off the bulb, but usually not a problem.

And this I took on my farm this past weekend...

Two things in the south to pinpoint old home place spots... yellow/orange day lillies and spider lillies.
If you find those blooming, there used to be a house there.

It wasn't difficult for me.
Start with the width of the petals. Not to mention the color. ;)

I have to agree with JSanders10 that it looks exactly like the red spider lilly, Lycoris radiata that is in his link.

It's still hard to believe how fast they grow. If you knew when they were going to pop up out of the ground, I bet you could sit there and watch them grow.

To follow up on this also, a friend of mine in NORTH Alabama told me she calls them Naked Ladies.

Those yankees have no shame. ;)
