200 to 250$ from a stranger.. maybee 300 if it was a realative or neighbor that needed to feed his kids.. 400$ is too close to new price.. cuz you can add 200$ to it and get a 600$ 'new' economy mower that shoult outlive that one.

Mind you the ford mower is a decent one.. just overpriced..

Would I pay $400? Probably not. Will it sell for $400? Maybe. Pictures have a way of making equipment look even better than it really is. If that's the case, examine VERY closely. How bad is the rust on the deck (and UNDER the deck) What sort of shape is the gearbox in? PTO shaft? All it would take is one of those items being worn out to create a money pit where you now see a bargain.

In the end, that mower would PROBABLY fetch $400 (or more?) at an auction. You're rolling the dice when you buy an older, medium/light duty mower.

I wouldn't. With your tractor, I'd spend another $400 and get me a 6' light/economy mower. At least it'll have a little warranty. If you bought that used one, it could run forever OR it could break 1/2 in 2 tomorrow.

With the 1547, unless you mow in tight quarters you'll want a 6' mower I'd bet. I've got a 1533 and sometimes wish I had a 6 footer. I wouldn't buy the used one.

Mornin Donais,
On my Massey its 6 ft to the outside track of the rear tires. I have been using a 5ft bushog so Im driving over almost 6" of field grass on each side of the cut. At times when the field is heavy with under growth the 5 ft mower is plenty, which is usually the first cut. After that initial cut a 6 ft mower would be the way to go ! If I had your MF 1547 I would definitely go with a 6ft mower, be patient, one will pop up and you will be happy you waited ! ;)

I'm with the others. Too risky for that price and for a little more, you will find the one that's perfect for you. If you buy it, you will be stuck with something you wont be happy with.

Around here that would go for 150 real fast and would sell in a week for 250. At 400 it would sit for a while. Leaving grass clippings on the mower is a "trick" to show you that it was running good just when it was left there. But to me, it shows that they didn't clean it off to keep it from rusting and probably didn't give it regular maintenance.

If you want it, offer 200. But inspect the deck, under the deck (Flip it up on it's side), the blades, and the gear box (leaks from the seals, oil level and oil color). I wouldn't go over 250.

thanks for the advise, the rust on it is just surface, nothing really rusts here in san diego... ive been looking online for one. no tsc in sd and the only equipment dealers only have $1000. + mowers . might find one on the big trip to montana this summer....jon

got mine for $225 with slip clutch.

but in my area the only thing i could find from dealers was stuff that was twice as rough looking for twice as much. They think the used stuff in the back is gold plated i swear.

Ahhh, San Diego where a lot in excess of 1/2 acre is horse property AND over an acre is a "Ranchette."

Factoid: The Population of San Diego County California exceeds the population of the state of Oklahoma (not counting illegals at either location.) Rural (Country) property (not government owned) is where there is fewer than about 500 people per sq mile anywhere near the city of San Diego.

You and the wife can still live in Ramona.... Ramona, OK is only a few miles from my place! :)

And COX is in Tulsa and Owasso- about 20 miles S. of Ramona.

Donais, I would look a little harder. I was looking for some tires and finally found some for a lot under list and very little time on them - less than 50 hours on turf. i also bought my former 4100's Mower Deck from a guy who was 500 miles away. He happened to be a pilot and so it got shippped to the local airport for only 25 bucks. I paid less than half of new for a JD 54" MMM for the 4100 CUT:

Too much. I'd offer $250.

I spent the better part of the last 6 mo. looking for a new mower, and found a number better than that. After looking through classifieds, nickel ads, and online, I ended up purchasing a 6' economy mower new from the local Chinese tractor dealer. The mower is a Kodiak, and is made in Tennesee...$849. He was clearing them out for his own private label that match his tractor's name. The price was a little less than I found for a 6' Howse brand. Howse and King Kutter are fairly reasonably priced mowers in my area....check'em out if you get the chance.

You may also be able to find an awesome deal at a nearby equipment auction.

DONAIS,

Is Dudley's bakery still there? Use to swing by there and pickup a couple loaves of bread then round robin thru Julian and back to San Diego.
