Is welding two truck frames together an awful idea?

im sure you guys will do a great job and it will be over engineered and plenty safe just make sure you have a means of getting the alignment, rack/frame machine done that will be the most critical so you drive straight etc....

I don’t know of anywhere with a frame machine big enough to fit this truck.

If you're good enough with a tape measure, and have good attention to detail, no reason you need a frame shop.

I plan to level both sections of frame on screw jacks, and measure and cross measure every detail I can, and call it good enough. I'm going to have my cousin do the welding. I could do it, wouldn't care to try... but he's 2 miles away, and welds for a living with the paperwork to prove he's good at it... and is actually good at it!

Does this truck get a DOT# when it's done? If so, You can always ask them about the frame Mod. If it will get inspected you may want to know their thoughts prior to welding. If not, I'd weld it up using one of the suggestions above and be done with it.. Good Luck !

No dot or state inspection on this truck.

I have done several repair for dump trailers stopped by DOT due to cracks on the frame. You don't change the frame just do the proper weld repair and they re-inspect before it is allowed to work again. I would guess the truck frame will be the same. I like making things work that people say will not. Challenge accepted! Good luck.:thumbsup:
