Before discovering YouTube, I got much how to information from Yahoo Groups. There was a vast amount of information in the files of those groups and like TBN
members, Yahoo Group membes would gladly answer questions. Earlier this year we got notice that all Yahoo Groups were being shut down for good. I don't know whether the shut down is final now or not. My favorite group started over as a Google Group. I could still get how to infomation and videos from YouTube and all was well.

Now, I'm hearing that YouTube intends to close down all channels that aren't making money. Is this true and where can I get particulars? A couple of my favorite Youtube channels have low memberships and I'm afraid they aren't making money.

If they are they haven't notified everybody. I have three different You Tube channels. None are monotized. There was a time they would send me emails asking me to monotize but then they changed the requirements which most of my stuff doesn't meet. I never posted anything unless I thought it would interest or help someone else so getting paid to put up videos was never my plan. I run Add Blocker anyways and I think they don't pay people when I watch their videos but I haven't seen very many that restrict me from watching because of it.

I have noticed one of my favorite gun guys doesn't show up in my feed any more and isn't in my subscribed list. I'm not positive I ever subscribed to him though. It might just be I didn't watch his stuff for a while so they changed what they are showing me.

Thanks for the information, TractorGuy. I think you're in the same sitution as Jim Jackson. He seems to put up information just for the benefit of those who have Snapper Rear Engine Riders and has a limited market. Jim is the second YouTuber who's mentioned this. Your not having been notified makes me think, YouTube must have put out a press release or something.

A lot of Yahoo groups moved content over to io, including some that started as Google.groups. I heard Youtube is changing their policies to not allow videos without ads, so perhaps channels that have not (or are abandoned) agreed to the new policy are being shut down?

Long before the WWW existed most information on the "Internet" was shared (by civilians) via USENET...which eventually evolved into www applications like yahoo groups etc., etc...

USENET groups still exist (mostly by subscription) and there are several organizations that offer archives of the early groups...

I just looked at two of my accounts and both still have a link to upload videos. None of mine include any ads. One thing new when I upload a video is they ask if I include an ad or endorsement in the video.

Some users have gone to in video marketing to get around us folks that use ad block plus. Not sure if that violates any user agreements but seems like that also skirts YouTube's ability to make money on the advertising. I have seen quite a few that have endorsements included IN the video content.

No one here, including those with Youtube channels, seems to have gotten the dope on the shutdown. This puts me at a loss as to why the YouTubers who are afraid of being shut down are suddenly begging for subscribers because if it.
They've never seemed concerned with making money from their channels and I don't think it's a ruse on their parts. Hopefully, it's fake news sent to them by a prankster.

Thanks to all who have commented.

I love Youtube, and watch it a lot on Apple TV, but I really wish there was an alternative and that I wasn't supporting them and their policies/beliefs and agendas.
