What could be the problem with the Solenoid?? I went to start the tractor and there was Nothing!! We have a brand new battery so that's not the problem!!

One thing is today we found out that if you give the Solenoid a few hits with a wrench or what not it will crank over and start!! What could be the problem there!!

I found one for like 50.00 Bucks or so !! Is that okay?? or is there a cheaper one or one that can go with a TS1610 that is cheaper??

Just let me know! I don't want to keep taking off the side guard and have to hit the Solenoid every time I start the tractor!!

Thanks

It sounds like you should replace the solenoid. That is a sign that parts are worn out, and the rest will fail eventually and the wrench will not work. From what I found, %50 seems about average. You can look on eBay, but that is hit or miss. This is a good article that explains it in more detail and how to test you solenoid: Bench Testing a Starter Motor. I use Stevens tractor for a lot of parts, and if they dont have it listed, you can call, and they can often get it in. They have very good prices, and I think that they are in TX. Search results for: 'TS1610'

Good luck with it, and hope this helped a bit!

I had a similar problem on my TS1610. Sometimes it would start and mostly it would not start.

When I pulled back the solenoid about a quarter inch by loosening the screws the tractor started. So I ordered a new solenoid for $32 and installed it. Same problem, it didn't fix it.

Then I tried cleaning and greasing the throw out assembly on the starter shaft. That assembly looked rusty. Then I installed the starter back in the tractor. Same problem again, it wasn't fixed.

So then I ordered a new starter. The new starter fixed it.

It order this part on ebay: "STARTER SOLENOID Chevy GMC Honda Isuzu Opel Blazer S10 Jimmy Civic Pickup
Item# 330717176336" The hot and ground were reversed from the orginal on this selenoid.

I still have the new solenoid on the old starter I removed.
