THis tractor has 3 PTO speeds, does anyone know what they are? I've been runnig the mower on 1, but it seems slow. Also, can someone tell me what the correct procedure is for starting this thing in cold weather? I had problems starting it even with the engine heater on. I tried everything and it would fire right off with starter fluid, but die after that burned up. After playiong under the hood a while I found a fuel dump valve??? When I opened the valve and started the tractor it started right up and fuel poured out of the valve. Was it just flooded and that dump valve cleared it? Do you normally give a diesel gas when trying to start it or leave the throttle closed all the way? Sorry for all the questions, but I have no manual and know nothing about tractors or diesels.

I have a TU205F which is the same series and starting should be pretty much the same. In cold weather, it is important to preheat the glow plugs before attempting to start. Turn the key towards you and hold in this position until the glow plug indicator glows red. This is the hole in the lower right hand area of the dash that looks like a washer. In cold weather, my indicator (resistant wire) glows red in about 45 seconds or so. Once red, turn ignition to off, then immediately start engine. If engine is not responding, repeat. If this doesn't start your engine, you may wish to test your glow plugs. If you can't get a nice red glow from your indicator, this may indicate one or more of your glow plugs are defective. (What you don't want to do is use starting fluid, as it eats up the glow plugs). If all three glow plugs are good, I would suspect compression. I plug in the heater for about 2 hours prior to starting for an easy start. Regardless, I can start my 205 at 20 degrees F without heat (about a minute of glow plug).

Cheers, Tom

Starting fluid not only hurts the glow plugs it cracks pistons and bends rods and worse. Take the can and banish from your tractors sight forever.

Throttle back, glow glowing bright red, start. If is doesn’t even try to start (no smoke coming from exhaust) your glow plugs are probably bad.

"Throttle back" I'm assuming these means all the way to idle? Thanks for the advice on the starting fluid, hopefully I haven't done damge already.

Can anyone answer the first question in the previous post about the 3 PTO speeds? I'm wondering which one is the standard 540 RPM?

Uaually the first one.

PS. PTO speed is directly related to engine speed. Make sure engine RPM's are fast enough.

Throttle back means 3/4 to full throttle. When the engine starts to clean up slow it down.

While we aren't in extreme temps in VA, we still use a heater all winter long on the tractor we use for snow plowing and winter projects. Starts like a charm. For $29.99 from Valu-Bilt (www.valu-bilt.com), you can pick up a small magnetic heater. It has a variety of applications besides tractors (chainsaws, snowblowers, snowmobiles, etc.).

I looked it up on Pudding's world Link

I didn't find the TU 200, but most of the Iseki 3 speed pto's are 454rpm, 724rpm and 1185 rpm. This would mean that your lowest setting would be slow for a 540 mower.

PTO rpm is usually almost full throttle. The other option you have is to put your PTO speed on the middle setting and throttle down, but keep in mind you will not have as much power with your throttle down. Be carefull too because running a 540 mower at 724 could be awkward at best and deadly at worst.
