The original manual for the Iseki tx1500 recommends sae 10w30 or sae 20 or 30 for the engine. Is it a problem if it is a modern oil which is synthetic? Anyone use something like 15w40?

Also the gear oil listed for the gear case and bevel case says sae 80 or 90. In fact the manual specifically says SAE 80 for the transmission case. Not sure if you can still get 80 so was thinking 90 would do.

Wondered again if a modern hypoid oil is ok or if I have to look for a vintage oil? Not sure if it makes any difference?

Thanks

I have a Mitsubishi D2350 of about the same vintage. Lacking an original manual I've run diesel rated 15W-40 in it for the last twenty years or so - summer or winter. I change it every spring as well as the filter. Synthetic should cause no problems and of course you can use the recommended weights just see if it's diesel rated. I just use number 46 hydraulic fluid from Costco in the hydraulic system as it seems pretty common. I have no manual to say otherwise. I think I've only changed it twice and cleaned the filter screen in the last twenty years.

I'd stick with a diesel rated oil for the engine. I use a semi synthetic in mine - Valvoline Premium Blue this time (T5 last time) As far as the transmission, I'm running utto in mine (Rotella hd). I've seen SAE 80 oil at NAPA, but seeing as it is used in the hydraulics as well, that's what I'm sticking with. It's rated for GL-4, so it meets gear oil standards. If yours is 4 wheel drive, I'd use a specific gear oil in the front diff.
Keep in mind that the viscosity of engine oil and gear oils overlaps consideraby.

Thanks very much for your advice guys. I will see what I can find here in Scotland.

I went to my local agricultural dealer for my transmission and engine oil.

Probably didn't have 0w or 5w oils back then. I'd use a 5w30 diesel oil from your friendly VW dealer made for VW TDIs. That's what I'm using in the JD tractor and Isuzu diesel generator engine because I bought a lot of 5w30 Castrol (Group III hydro oil) from VW upon receiving VW $ for our TDI. When I run out in future, I plan to order M1 0w30 ESP oil online just because I know it'll be the best.

For your gear oil, we have 75-90w gear oils here, which are like a 20w engine oil with different additives for gears vs. engines.
