I went to use my 3pt chipper today and struggled with connecting the PTO shaft onto the tractor (Iseki). Its the quick disconnect kind with a push button on the side. I checked the tractor shaft and its fine, I checked the PTO female connector and the pin is moving and I am getting past the first bump but it will not slide far enough onto the shaft to allow it to lock.

I cleaned and oiled both parts and no go. I had my logging winch on it before and I re tried it and it goes on and off without an issue. The logging winch quick disconnect is the ring type with three ball bearings as the locking mechism.

Any thoughts on WHY it wont slide onto the shaft? Does anyone know of where I can get the ring type yoke end part and just replace that?

Thanks

i bet the pin is not sliding down far enough from corrosion, or the id of the splines has dried grease,m corrosion or a bur preventing it from sliding on.. reclean and look over real well.

THats what I thought too, I cleaned the splines and used a screwdriver and a file, then with WD40 and a rage. The pin does move out of the way and I can tell when I attempt to slide it on the shaft without pushing the button it wont slide on and then pushing the pin allows it to go on quite a lot. It appears to only need to slide on about 1/8 of an inch more.

Very wierd.

i have the same problem with my bush hog (kodiak ) ive come to beleive its poor machining, even tried another kodiak shaft, same problem. has this happened before with the shaft for the chipper or did it slide on and off easy before?

Hi Earl Ive always struggled getting the chipper yoke on, I figured it was because the tractor is small and the chipper is small and not alot of room to get my hands in there. I found a possible source for the different type locking yoke that uses three ball bearings instead of the single side slide pin. I think Ill try this yoke and see if it works better.

let me know how it turns out for you, i may follow suit. it takes 10+ minutes of proffesional cussin to get mine hooked up while other attachments slide right on. i need to mow this coming weekend, think i'll take a fine file and just clean the coupler on the hog.

Sounds like the coupler is the problem. Clean and dry the coupler. Spray the PTO shaft with WD-40 or similar. Then slid the coupler on to the shaft until it binds. Remove the coupler and look at the pattern of transfered oil. You'll likely see the problem area. A small sharp file does wonders.

Once in awhile I have had to tap the back of my Yolk with a hammer...I use about a 12 inch piece if 2"X2" oak board and put one end on the back of the yolk and hit the other with a mallet..when I have had to do that it always snaps into place...may not be a cure but has gotten into place for me ...Good Luck

sounds like a lil oxidation, deformation, or interference fit on the very back end of the ID splines of the coupler. I'd go at it with a file and make it fit a lil easier.
