Hey Guys,
I recently bought an older B7100HST (early 1980s), and want to get it up to speed.

I've a few small issues I want to address now.
When I bought it, it had a Kubota 3-pt finish mower attached to it. The fellow that had it would mainly use the finish mower, but when he wasn't, he'd disconnect it at the drive line, and not actually take it off at the PTO spline. Well, of course, I want it to come off! I push in the button (tried every different depth, including as far as it'd go), but it just won't come off. Maybe I'm missing a trick here, and someone can point me in the right direction.

One of the things I thought would help was if I took off the PTO guard to access the back of the driveline. Six of the bolts come out easy enough, but the link bar pivot does not seem to want to slide out of the hitch. The is a bolt that comes up from the bottom and pins the bar in the middle, but I've removed that. I've banged on it with a hammer just a bit to see if I can break it free, but I don't want to damage it if I'm missing something else about it. The rod spins as free as the center 'flag' lets it, but the flag seems like it's welded (or maybe rusted) to the rod. Getting this rod out is necessary to get the PTO guard off the rest of the way.

Lastly, this machine was not equipped with a ROPs. I participated in the Kubota safety program that got me one of these on the cheap ($148+tax), but I don't want to install it today unless I can get this whole PTO spline/coupler figured out.

BTW, I got my ROPs through Kitsap Tractor. I know they have tons and tons of negative reviews online, but I had great luck with them. They didn't know about the program, but got up to speed pretty quick. Not only did they order it in for me, they didn't hammer me with some invented policy that they had to install it (and charger service hours), and they even scheduled getting it shipped up from Georgia to Washington by putting it on the truck with their regular deliveries, thus me getting it shipped in for free!!! The crate it came in was absolutely ridiculous, but it's a nice looking ROPs that will make the tractor safer and look better.

The "flag" in the center should move free on the shaft. It must be rusted solid. Try some penetrating oil. If that does not work you might need to heat it.

For the drive shaft try heat, then lots penetrating oil of choice and wait a day. Then use a needle scaler on the solid outside parts to get some vibration going. And then try getting it off. this method not guaranteed!:)

This thing is really kicking my but.

I still can't get the flag loose. Lots of PB Blaster, lots of banging, prying, and cursing.

And, I still can't get the drive shaft off the spline. I've gone so far as to knock the lock pin all the way out (and I can see all the way through it) and even get a pry bar behind it, but no love.

I'm about to try and beat the U-Joint apart and then try to get a gear puller on it.

Any other ideas?

U-joint; by beat you mean remove the retaining clips and remove the cross?

Angle grinder?

Do you use a backup hammer when tapping the drive shaft?

Sometimes things seem to get to the impossible point. Just stay calm and be patient.:D
