I was wondering about dual wheels. I've got a 1970 JD 500 Series B (70 HP /19k lbs) TLB (2 wheel drive). I'm trying to do some work in a wet area and I'm always getting stuck, sometimes right down to the frame. Now, I know, you can't get stuck with a TLB but it can take the better part of the afternoon to get back on solid ground. Then, since the area I'm working is swampy, (to say nothing of the newly installed ruts) I have to wait on the weather to dry it out. Last summer was nearly a complete waste.

The rear tires are 18.4-28's and I forget what the fronts are. I'm thinking that if I could set it up with duals at both ends I'd have a fighting chance. Has anyone got any experience with one of these machines running dual wheels front and rear? How about- how set up the dual wheels, what besides the obvious do I need to outfit my machine?
Am I looking down the wrong path?
I appreciate any help on this.

It will be no problem, just ALLWAYS use your outriggers when using the backhoe, dont just rely on the duals for stability: That will put undue stress on the halfshafts. TLB axles (especially the older, smaller ones) arent designed to bear the breakout force of the backhoe.

A friend of mine uses tractor wheel weights bolted to the outriggers to increase the contact area when working in swamp.

I have duals all around on my tractor but it is not your normal tractor. I always put the duals on when working in soft areas. With duals on, it ahs teh same ground impact as my atv. That capability is one big reason why i bought it. Slope capability is teh other. But if i spin my wheels, i will still get stuck, even with chains.

So ugly, it's cool.

You need my machine. 4WD, 4WS, posi front & rear axles, 26" ground clearance. Awesome in mud. Goes places even a mini-ex won't go....
