We have a TSC competitor 35 miles north, called Family Farm. I don't know if they are chain or this is a solo store. They seem to just under-cut the TSC on the other end of town.

While I was in Family Farm yesterday, I noticed they had gotten their chicks in. TSC won't have theirs for another week. He had sold out his first shipment except for these 15 Isa Browns pullets. The manager offered them to me for 90 cents each. (about 2/3 off price) Sweet! While I was not going to get my chicks for another few weeks, and while the ISA isn't my favorite, I couldn't pass up the savings.

His chicks arrive every Tuesday, so whatever he has left on the following Monday, he clears out @ half price. His prices were already 50 cents a chick less than the TSC. Next week, I might check to see if he got any Barred Rock pullets in.

I only have these 3 right now and if I do a lot of traveling this summer they may have to go. My tenant cares for the dog but he really doesn't like messing with chickens. These 3 keep me overrun with eggs. They like to come up and watch me in here at the computer and preen. Sometimes they nestle up at the patio door, I'm right inside, but I make them leave quickly or they make deposits, my husband hates that.

My 24 hens are over running us with eggs. Fortunately we were able to sell 12 dozen to one woman yesterday. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the 25 4 and 5 week old pullets in the barn.

I didn't know you could freeze eggs, just kidding.

Wouldn't folks be leary of buying chicks from chain stores? I'd be concerned with all the folks that go in there and handle them.

I have seen them at TSC store and they sell don't know if people handle them. At the feed store they are kept in the back.

I had 36 chickens 2 or 3 back, the neighbor dog got about 5. I was drowning in eggs, kept the neighbors supplied, they loved it. But I started dressing them out and putting them in the freezer. In fact I boiled one today for some time and made chicken and home made noodles. The broth was so fat I skimmed over half a cup of fat off.

I am thinking of getting a bunch this year but have travel plans so not sure. They need to be 12 weeks or more for fryers, maybe more like 16 weeks if you want any meat on them. They are tougher then store bought but you know they aren't pumped full of hormones.
