Re: It\'s here!!! 790 has a home!
"Greg C. gave me the best deal."
Greg Crozier is the guy I dealt with. Yep, nice guy!
I live in southern PA and read about this tractor on Machinefinder.com. I e-mailed them and Greg was the one who responded.
It would have cost around $550 to deliver the 790 (and pick up my trade). However, Greg was bringing some boys to PA for a church thing so he brought the tractor up with him. Ended up costing about $140 for the delivery.
I'd definitely buy from him again!
One thing you might want to add is bucket hooks. Three, equally spaced on the top of the bucket works really well. Once you've got these welded on, you'll find then invaluable.
If you haven't tried removing the loader yet...it's a piece of cake. You will want to store it inside on an area as level as possible.
As a bit of a continuation on my purchase...I had a 1991 Deere 670 (smaller version of the 790...same design and some of the sheet metal) for trade. That was one sweet little tractor. Just didn't have enough PTO HP for a
chipper...sure did well with a 60" rotary cutter though!
Anyway, Greg picked the 670 up and, after his weekend here in PA, returned it to the Danville store. That little 670 sold within a week...for almost what I'd paid for it three years ago!
Just a good all around story...
I'm real happy with the 790...a bit more gear whine then the 670 had. Definitely stronger then the 670 was. Don't let anyone tell you the 419 loader isn't as strong as the #70 loader. Read
all the specs on those loaders. the 419 lifts almost 12" higher and is quite comparable to the #70 in capacity...stronger in some aspects.
About the only thing I don't care for is the requirement to remove the grill guard to pull the battery. You can service it from the top (with the hood open), but it doesn't appear you can remove it that way. I haven't had to pull the guard off yet but I'll wager it'll be a handfull. Just keep an eye open for any corrosion in the battery compartment.
