It is a sad day when a good friend leaves. My friend was there whenever I needed him, to help me move big bales of hay around our barn yard, to help me clean up after my horses decided to leave a mess, and rake up the pastures when needed.

My friend never complained and all he asked for was the occasional drink and some greasey food.

But as time went on, my friend and I had some disaggrements. He wanted to keep working at 115 deg + weather, in the middle of dust storms, and in the middle of monsoonal rains. Therein lied the problem. I do not function well in these conditions at all. I know, what a wimp I was not to go out in these conditions.

The other problem I had was my friend was rather limited. I need it him to help me do more, but he just couldn't accomidate me with my requests, and so with his limitations, I had to finally say goodbye.

BUT.....

I now have a new friend, one who will still be willing to help me with my chores and will allow me not to complain about the weather conditions. My new friend isn't limited like my old one because he is a little more nimble.

With out furthur adieu, I would like you to meet my new friend.....

Ok here is the scoop.....

Traded in my L3130 GST with q/a and hd bucket.

Bought

L5740 HSTC with all cab options (the rear wiper and defrosting windows still on order)

T-N-T

3rd function valve c/w bobcat style connectors. Reason for using these is that my dealer rents almost all the bobcat attachments that I would need, when I need them. A lot cheaper than buying right now. ( I know, before using them, I will flush the fluids prior to using them.)

Q/A with HD bucket and cutting edge. (already have Q/A forks)

And of course, a fully hydraulic Gannon box blade.

Oh, the older gentleman is my father-in-law.

Peter

Your new friend looks much more "user friendly" Very nice setup, thanks for sharing.

Is the new friend a HST? Very nice. I just went back and reread and found that it is an HST. I would have one already if it came in a GST. Guess I will have to settle for the 5040 because that is the only way I can get a GST.

I felt the same way when I was looking at getting my first tractor, I didn't want to have to change gears and I wasn't sure about HST. Hence getting the GST on the L3130.

Now that I have been driving the new L5740 with HST, I find it gives me more control on the things I did before. I am now a convert from GST to HST.

Would I go back to GST ? Probably will in a pinch.

Nice looking tractor. I'm sure you will be happy with her. Just don't let a cow bump one of those doors. My FIL has already broken two doors with just a nug from a cow.

One of the things that I like about GST is that I don't have too use the clutch if I don't want to.

I agree 100%. I rarly used the clutch myself, but with both my wife and father-in-law using the tractor, exspecially when I'm on top of a road sider of hay restack onto pallets, they constantly rode the clutch.

In this case, HST made sense to get.

It's funny that you mention maple syrup in your moniker. The reason that I ended getting the 5740 was a) I got a screaming deal, and b) is that I will be moving in the next 24 months back to eastern Ontario, where I will be playing on 120+ acres, 80 of it in sugar bush. It will be a far cry from the 2 acres I have now.

Fabulous looking rig you have there!

Welcome to Ontario!. You sure are going to appreciate that cab up here in the winter time. Where exactly are you moving to?

Welcome to the frozen north. I live 20 miles from the Canandian border. I have a very good friend that has a farm in Merrickville Ot. I started making syrup 8 years ago as a hobby. I had maybe 10 taps now I am up to 500. What town will you be near?

When I first started reading your post I thought the old timer had past on and you were uligizing him, and it was bringing back memories of the 2 old timers I used to pickup @ 5 AM to take fishing because their wives wouldn't let them go by themselves. I haven't been since they have both past 2 years ago.
I was @ our new Cabelas last night and went looking at a new trout pole, thinking of the 2 old timers, and my kids teasing me " hey Dad do you have any friends under 75" "Nope not real ones":D April is coming this year.
Now to go mop up the floor:eek:
Beatiful tractor, I think the cabs are real nice. Were not getting any younger.
