I've Been to Scores of Mardi Gras Parades...

... but the Black & Gold victory Parade that I just returned from was AMAZING! There had to be at LEAST 3/4 of a million people lining a 1.6 mile parade route. Pictures and more thoughts on this event to follow (after I sleep some of this off).

I took a LOT of pictures but only a few are any good at all and even those are kinda crappy. I was trying to juggle having my boy on my shoulders so he could see, using a video camera and taking pictures. Not to mention the lighting and all of the movement (okay, enough) excuses). I'm hoping that I can pull some stills off from the video that will be better than these. Even so:

I have a few more, but I need to get ready to meet a newly selected Chief Petty Officer to shake his hand and buy him lunch at Drago's (mmmm charbroiled oysters).

You are lucky to have been to so many Mardi Gras parades. We've been to N.O. dozens of times but only once made it there three days before Mardi Gras with a schedule that allowed us to stay.

It was cancelled that year because the police were on strike. (late 70's - early 80's?)

Tho it's not like we didn't party like it was Mardi Gras every other time, but being there for the real deal would've been a treat.

My wife and I were in Kenner on Monday night and Tuesday. Saw lots of folks that were headed into town for the parade.
