Fell into a deal on a used but unbent scraper. Have cleaned, primered, painted, and tightened everything up except the main swivel. Here there is a about a 1" bolt connecting the blade to the frame. Appears I can simply tighten the nut and draw the two closer together (about a 3/8" gap now) to take out the slop. THere is no evidence of any surface bearing or gasket material missing from the original build but should there be something between them? And how much clearance is normal between the frame and the blade mount? If pictures would be more helpful than my descrption I will take some and post for you.

Thanks,
Jeff

I have never seen any blades with gasket material in any movable connection. There is always a bit of slop in the swivel joint, but a worn bolt might provide more than you want. I would remove it and check for wear, put in a new one if worn, otherwise just leave it as is. It will still work well even with some movement. You might not be able to swing it if it were very tight.

When I rebuilt/ painted my KK 8' rear blade I cut a LARGE washer from a plastic snow sled to fit between blade and mount and then can beef the parts together to get rid of slop and still rotate easily...
