John Deere 1070
I have a j.d. 1070 that I just purchased with a woods rm-90 finish mower. It seems to me that the top link is too long on the 3pt. I can tell that it is not original. It is adjusted as short as it goes but still when I raise it, only the front of the mower raises because of the pivot link at the top of the mower. If anyone is familiar with this mower, maybe they could tell me if this is normal. Or if anyone has a 1070 with the original top link and could measure the length of it fully retracted, it would much appreciated.

I had the same issue with an International World Agritech rough cut mower. The 3pt hitch would only pick up the front end of the mower. The problem with mine was the floating link on the center connection of the mower. It was turned around backwards!!! If your mower has a floating link, or some form of a pivoting arm make sure its all mounted correctly. If that is not the problem, then you may well need a shorter center link. I was looking in the TRC catalog and they show about three d ifferent sizes for Cat 1hitches. Let us know if you find anything.....

Tisco parts catalog list two cat 1 replacement top links, one adjusts from 20.5-29" and the other 25-35". your tractor would want the short one.

Thats one of many areas that TSC falls short, I have never seen the short cat 1 top link in any stores.

I am jealous, If at the time I wasnt such a punk and TBN was around, I would have known enough to get the 1070 instead of my 970.

What year is yours? Have your rubber fuel lines leaked yet? look for cracks, they are the ones going into the engine head. Fill out your Biography, it helps people solve issues

My 1070 OEM top link fully closed length is roughly 17.5 inches. In use for virtually all mowers, tillers, rakes, etc. its set to 23 inches. I use the upper link position in the transmission case. With this setup, when the lower arms are fully raised and the top link is at the same sideview angle, the top link rear attach point is at the same aft postion as the lower link points. This might be different for other operators and attachements. They might prefer to have the top link and lower link points at the same aft position when the lift arms are horizontal. Make sure the top link tractor end is at the position most favorable to your needs. My 1070 has draft control so there are 2 positions available.

Thanks everyone for all of your help. It seems that my inital theory was correct and I need to get a different top link.
