The throttle on my 850 will not stay in the open position unless I keep my hand on it or keep it open via the foot control. Anything specific I should look for when I take it apart? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Dennis,
The first thing I would try is tightening up the friction disc.
Where the throttle lever bolts( pivots) on the tractor there is a nut with a washer (friction disc) behind it.
Slightly tighten the nut and your throttle lever should stay put.
If it still moves while in use the friction disc may be worn.
An easy repair and only takes a few minutes.
Good luck

Thanks for the response. There dosen't seem to be a friction nut. All the linkage seems to be put together with cotter pins.
I was going to attach a photo but apparently the systme will not take that large a file.
Sorry.
I wiil try to post a page from my 850 service manual on the throttle linkage.
#8 is the friction disc, you need to tighten the nut on the backside of the linkage to put more tension on the friction disc.
Sorry, Its been a few years since I adjusted my 850 throttle linkage and could not remember for sure how I did it.

Thanks again for the page from your manual. It looks like my problem is that part #3 the ball is missing. I did take out the pin and coil spring and found nothing in there. Looks like a trip to the J.D. Dealer. I really appreciate your help.
