Howdy all:
Can anybody tell me where the best place to jack up the rear end of my B2400 so as to be able to swap or change position holes for the rear tires? The mower(Kubota) manuel says to move the rear tires outboard to the outermost holes on the shaft. Thanks in advance.

I put the jack under the draw bar bracket and use two jack stands under the axles. I use an automotive style floor jack and have no implements rigged to the 3PH.

Make sure you chock the front wheels, especially if you don't have a FEL installed.

Once your tires clear the floor by ¼" to ½", that's high enough. Any higher just requires more lifting and working the tires. That's a tough job if they're filled. Obviously, don't forget to torque to specs before you operate your tractor.

Thanks Roy. I do have a FEL, and I was told somewhere that the FEL can be used to stabilize the tractor laterally when you lift the back wheels, especially when lifting it in the center of the drawbar bracket. I agree that looks like a good place to lift it, but how about off center somewhere if I only wanted to do one wheel at a time? Would it damage the tranny casing if I did that? Can I assume that along the axle itself would be OK?

Jeff,

I've done it multiple ways with my B2400. No problems. I supose you could lift it by the FEL frame but that would require a tall jack. You won't hurt the cases any. Think about how the tractor would load the cases if it were on a side hill. That's a similar loading condition.

I think you'll ind that lifting in the center at the drawbar is easiest. It doesn't tip much either; especially if you're lifting a 1/2inch off the floor.

If you can, place a 2x4 ontop of the jack so the aluminum case is in contact with the wood (not the metal of the jack). To stabilize things, put a jack stand under each axle close to the case. It's really quite stable anyway.

When I change my wheels, I keep the transmission in neutral and in 2wd. That way I can rotate an axle if needed (without using the jackstands of course).

Oh, one thing to remember, those tires and wheels are HEAVY; even if not loaded. I use the jack to raise and lower the tractor to match the stud holes in the rim.

I'd still jack at the draw bar bracket...

Even when I've only had to pull one wheel, I've used the process described. That's a solid axle under there. Personally, I think jacking one side may stress the axle...especially where it attaches to the differential. As far as any real potential for damage...I've no idea, but I know jacking at the drawbar bracket won't hurt anything.

will agree with Roy. jack it up from the center.less strain all the off wheel and axel. mabey just my paranoia, but that is me! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Think about it this way, if jacking it by the axle would hurt it, so would driving it over ditchs and burms. Either one of them can put a large amount of pressure on a single wheel and axle.

I lift mine with a floor jack back by the draw bar and then I place lift stands under the axles. I seriously doubt jacking the 2400/2410 from the axles would cause any damage or side loading. What do you think happens when it is on a side slope and loaded with FEL and boxblade. If you bend an axle or break the transmission that way I will very, very surprised, in fact--it is impossible. TresCrows is right. My little B7100 has had one rear wheel or even both off the ground when doing loader work.
