Can anyone tell me the right way to install the jack shaft between the PTO and the carrier brg. Should the long end be on the PTO or the Carrier brg. I have looked in the manual but it only says to install shaft. I think I have installed it both ways.
Thanks for any help on this

It looks like you have a 2210 and the telescoping end of the shaft goes forward. Also remember to index the U joints on the mid and front shafts...

Thanks Labrat. I'm asuming the telascoping end is the large end.

Actually the smaller end goes forward. If you put the large end forward the shaft is very close to the steering drag link and may hit it when rotating.

Telescoping end goes forward on my 2305 with the 47" front SB. As others have pointed out, if you go the other way the PTO may come in contact with the steering linkage.

LABRAT: Your two pics show the two shafts indexed differently, it looks to me. Which way is the correct indexing realtionship between the two shafts. BTW, I don't remember reading anywhere else in the manual or anything, to index between the two shafts. I have never done so, but am interested if its a good idea.

If I remember correctly it was in the manual, but I'll check to make sure. This is actually from the auto industry. Older trucks and vans had a 2 piece drive shaft with a center carrier barring. The spline that joined the 2 shafts could be positioned at any clock position and if the 3 U joints were not aligned you would get a vibration at around 35 to 45 mph..

The picture on the left is the correct installation..

On page 6 of the snowblower manual the picture in the upper right corner (MX16955) shows the U joints aligned same as the picture that I posted earlier.
