2018 JD 1025R
Greetings Gentlemen,

I was just curious if you guys think the service manual and any other technical manuals for a 1025R are worth the price, whether they are paperback or on CD? I would like to try to do most of the service on my 1025R myself, or at least as much as I can. I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but I do want to try to save some money on work by not taking my machine to the dealership (unless I really need to). My machine is an early 2018 model with 74 hours on it, so I do not expect to need any major work done for a while (at least I hope not), I just want to be as knowledgeable about my machine as I can be. I have learned quite a bit from this forum, other websites, and youtube videos; but I think the service manuals could be helpful in understanding more about my machine.

Also What is the best way to find out about machine updates (ex. the air filter update), or changes in a machine that may not be up to date in the service manual(s)? I know that tractors can have minor changes made from year to year that may not be noticeable unless you crawl around the machine working on it. Thanks for any information gentleman. :)

I would not want to be without access to my service tech manuals for each of my Deere machines. Your interest in knowing more about them may vary..
But TBN is priceless with vast knowledge of members.. so you could try relying on TBN and asking questions.

I think they are worth the price..

I too thought about purchasing the Tech Manual for my 4105... but the Owner Manual truly does have all of the maintenance procedures and specifications that I haven't found a real need in having one (other than 'having it'). I also highlight information in that Owner Manual that's particular to my rig + make pencil notes (such as 'What size socket/spanner for a particular bolt)

Pencil is best for making notes. Pen ink could run if the manual were to get wet.

The very odd time that I've required a schematic or 'break-down' diagram I've simply gone into my JD Dealership and they've printed off the relevant document. For free. And a mechanic has always been available to discuss the problem... again, for free.
