John Deere 1026r
Hey all,

New guy here. Just ordered a John Deere 1026r with loader and backhoe from a local dealer after they let me test run one they just put a backhoe on for a previous customer. I must say, I'm quite impressed with this setup (aside from the over-abundance of plastic anyway... but I can live with that). Anyway, I tried the backhoe out and thought it was the pattern I was used to until I started trying to dig a small trench with it. I found that the dipper and boom are reversed for what I'm used to and it was REALLY hard to get used to it (I learned to run backhoes/trackhoes on a CAT 315B L). So, I was wondering if there is any way to safely change the pattern without having to worry about voiding the warranty or if they offer different pattern variants? Anyway, thanks for any insight guys!

Edit: I would think just changing hoses around should work if you know what goes where, but don't want to do that if it will void warranty (not sure why it would, but figured it safer to ask and see if anyone knows).
Edit2: Just realized I put this in the wrong section of the forum... hopefully a Mod can move this for me? :ashamed:

I have a Cat 301.8 mini-excavator that has a pattern changer valve. I assume the pattern changer valve has the same effect as changing hoses. The dealer said they do this on primary rental equipment to match which ever rental customer comes into the shop. They term it John Deere pattern or ISO pattern at the dealership but don't mention John Deere in the book. A problem with your doing the same thing by switching hoses could be hose lengths and routing but assuming there is no large change in hose diameters where changing hoses would restrict flow to a particular frequently used circuit, I wouldn't see any problem.

You should be sure that the valves on the different controls are identical before you switch the hoses around. I recall somebody here on TBN trying to do something similar, and concluding it wouldn't work on his particular hoe. Sorry I can't give you any more details though.

Thanks for the input guys. And yeah, I'm used to having the changeable pattern on the mini-x from the rental store. These little rigs seem to squeeze in so many features I was surprised they didn't fit a pattern switch in. The hoses and valves all appear to be the same size, so I wouldn't imagine changing them would cause a problem, but I just wanted to be sure it wouldn't void the warranty if I ever had to send it in for service or anything... though I suppose if I asked the store selling me the tractor to change it, they probably wouldn't have a problem with that then (since I think they do the service for my area too). Anyway, thanks again for the input!

Like the conclusion you came to, ask the dealer to do it for you. If they do, it would be safe to assume no warranty issues. If they won't, then ask them if you do it yourself if that would impact your warranty relating to the backhoe. I believe I read a guy with a new Kubota reversed his a few months back as he was use to "Cat" controls. The only backhoe I've run is my own, so the pattern it came with is intuitive at this point, except for the outriggers, which you push forward to raise them and pull back to lower - always have to think about those and still get it wrong. I have thought about reversing those hoses, but never get enough ambition to do it.
