Folks,

I have a Model 80 FEL. I noticed that on the larger model
Kubotas, 4600 series for instance, that Kubota uses a strut
brace that goes across the top of the FEL boom. I'm wondering
if something like this is available for my FEL. She's had
some pretty good use and a brace like this would significantly
stiffen her up. I picture a bar that goes across the top
of the cowl, (gas tank area), and that bolts to the left
and right boom verticals at the point where the mast pivots.

Anyone hear of such a thing?

Thanks
Dave

That bar is called a "Transmission Housing Flex Reducer".
Seriously, the top of your loader posts will take quite a bit of abuse and that bar on the Kubota is to reduce the abuse the the loader mounting brackets and transmission housing endure.
My understanding is that years ago, Kubotas and many other tractors had problems with cracked transmission housings. During punishing loader work, the loader mounting brackets would crack the brittle, cast housing. This would split the tractor in two, essentially. Not a cheap or quick fix. Kubota forked out a lot of cash to rebuild cracked tractors and calm peeved owners.
Kubota still is suffering from paranoia and continues to build its loaders with that design feature.
Is it bad? No. Its an extra margin of safety & structural integrity.
Install one on your JD 80? Not unless you want to unbolt it every time when removing your loader. (It will interfere with your vertical exhaust when you back away from the loader.)
