I have noticed the following going on with my JD 1070. MFWD and roughly 1500 hours.
When the weather is cold out (below 40 F), when the tractor is started and initially put into gear upon releasing the clutch there is a slight grinding noise that comes from the transmission. This is not a grinding sound as if you were jamming it into a gear, more of a soft grind/rubbing sound. It starts as the clutch begins to engage and stops once the clutch is completely engaged and the tractor is moving. You can feel a slight vibration through the clutch pedal. I have also noticed that once a few shifts are made, and the tractor is operated for a bit the noise goes away entirely. While it is cold, the noise is more pronounced the higher the gear that you start in. There is no noise when engaging the clutch in neutral.
No performance issue has been detected, and I was able to pull a 2x12 plow two weeks ago through tough ground with no problem. Any thoughts/ideas?
