I own a 1994 JD 1070 which has gremlins messing with the temperature gauge for at least the past ten years. It has been worked on by two different dealerships. There are still problems. It appears the humidity might have something to do with its intermittent operation. The sending unit has been replaced and possible shorts in the wiring have been checked. I think the problem is in the dash unit. The fix for this is a pricey new instrument cluster. Any suggestion?

I also have a 1070 which I throw a tarp over when it looks like rain... last week (after a heavy rain) my fuel and temp gauge both were not responsive. I let the dash dry in direct sun but still so response. Finally, I rapped the side of the dash with my fist and both gauges came up ... a low-cost solution.
My 1070 always reads the same temperature: 1/4 of the way up no matter what is going on. I clean out the radiator and the grill with a leaf blower after every field trip (cutting, raking baling and mowing) and check the coolant level whenever I feel like it (2ce a year maybe). No guilt or remorse.
I'm the OP of this old thread. I still have the darn problem with my temperature gauge. Any other suggestions? I'm not about to replace the dash. For the past few years I have been careful to check the coolant before using the tractor and if working in dusty conditions I frequently check the radiator for debris. The tractor is 20 years old and only has 800 hours on it.
