JD 145 Lawn Tractor that gave me issues with starting, stopping and backfiring. Ran really rough and hot. One of the users on here gave me some great tips. Basically there were bugs in the gas tank, ants, spiders that may have crawled into the gas cans.
Issue was a partially clogged/blocked fuel line.
The suggested fix is to take both the hoses off the fuel pump, and the other hoses off all the way down to the one that goes into the tank. (Don't take off the one that goes into the tank.)
Drain tank down to 1/4 inch of gas or empty and keep lid off to allow the air to escape.
Drain(Clean) the tank with a syphon or shop vac if possible to suck any debris or bugs out (check you gas cans too).
Us a compressor with an air tip to blow into hoses including the one going to the tank.
Optional - Blow air down the air hole toward the carb, (FYI - There is probably gas in there, DO not look into the carb while you do it.) in case something is stuck in there.
Reconnect everything and add clean gas. Hope it works for you as it did for me. Runs beautiful like new.

Hope this helps someone. If this didn't work, I had one other option left, that was to replace the fuel pump for $20. After that I would have gone with the big$$ fix at the JD service center.
