The blade engagement/clutch is slipping a bit on our 14SB walk behind mower.

Anyone have any idea what the price is to replace this thing?

Can I just get it welded in place? Any problems starting it?

One other problem is the cable to drive system is down to one strand of wire. The dealer couldn't find the single cable replacement in their parts list. Guess the whole 3 cable gizmo has to be replaced. May be able to run a single wire down the cable run and make it work. Anyone else faced this problem on the 14SB?

Thanks.

the drive cable is replaced with a new style handle, parts needed -

Part Number:
N194792 Nut
GX21634 cable
GX22026 lever

the clutch on the blade is a different story, could run upwards of 150 for parts alone

The clutch is slipping. I'd replaced the drive belt last year. It still looks good. When the grass gets heavy, the rpm (tell by sound) of the blade goes down.

It's apparently well known, as there are a lot of references to it online.

Might be time to replace the mower if I cannot weld or secure the blade. Don't think it's worth spending the $150 for a new blade clutch. Need a mower my wife can start. She can start this one. Bought a new Honda electric start for her to use, but her arthritic thumbs cannot stand the drive paddles on it. She needs the lever like is on the JD 14SB.

I found a new clutch online for $100. So, I figured I'd see if the old one would come off. The bottom part came right off.

It's there that I saw what our handyman had done last year. He'd put a washer underneath the allen screw. That causes the bottom part to be higher up and will contact the rotating "clutch" more securely. Then he'd put the washers for the blades beneath the blade, to keep the allen screw from rubbing the inner circle of the blade.

So, all I did was put in a thicker washer and a couple more washers underneath the blade.

Works fine now.
