I purchased a JD 8320 last spring. I have used it one season and enjoyed it a lot. I was notified that the tractor has a recall on it to replace the crank shaft. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I have read advertisements about 20 series tractors that have rebuilt engines. Is this due to the crank shaft breaking? Is there anyone out there who knows about this or has had it happen? Did it do any additional damage to the engine? Changing the crankshaft is a big job even if it is covered under warranty. Thanks!

A JD parts guy told me today that they were replacing crankshafts in these tractors because of an oiling hole not drilled in the correct place. He said there were two different vendors for cranks and one of them did not meet Deere specifications. Deere decided to replace all the cranks anyway. He also said that Deere wanted to complete this "product improvement" asap. They didn't want owners breaking down in the field during planting season.

I have now heard that the defective cranks have been put in the 7020 series as well but they are going to replace the 8020 series first and hope that the 7020 series tractors won't pose a problem. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
