- John Deere 300 loader backhoe
I'm a new member. Not sure if this is the right category for a mechanical question. I'm looking at a JD 300 Industrial loader backhoe to purchase. It has several problems but the one I am mostly concerned about is the shifting problem. This tractor has a manual tranny with two shift levers on the floor and a forward, reverse lever on the left side of the column. The left one shifts from high, low park and neutral. the right lever shifts from first to fourth. Heres the problem. When you step on the clutch, you can shift either left or right lever to any position, but when you shift the other lever the gears grind. It doesn't matter which side you shift first. Either one goes in easily until you shift the second one. Once they are in the tractor drives OK. I tried lowering the RPM's but that doesn,t help. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the fix is? Thanks. 1941 M Farmall, 1953 NAA Jubilee.
