Tractor
John Deere 318. John deere 215,
Hello all,

This morning we picked up a John Deere 318 at a yard sale, here is what we know, it was used by the local hospital and replaced with a larger unit. The tractor has 920 hours on it and was running good when parked, about two years ago. It will run on starter fluid but have not had time to get it past that point.

Going over the tractor however I busted a plastic hydraulics tube in the rear and lost all of the fluid. I know nothing about hydraulics. So my questions are, are these tubes special or will any fuel line work? What fluid do I replace it with? (preferably something I can pick up at an auto part store). Where do I fill the system and how much fluid does it take? In the end I am sure this will get me to change the fluid which I am sure needed replacement.

Also what oil filter does the unit take? Oil type? Transmission fluid? How do I check the transmission fluid- there was no dipstick?

I would love any and all advice. Types hints, and of course photos... Oh and one last thing, what battery should I get it never came with one to compare to.

As a side note, we plan on using it for the rear Gannon, and possibly adding a blade on the front. I have a 215- that I got in the same condition, but the only thing the same on the two is the color.

Update- My other tractor is a 215, attached are images of both. Sorry I had the 318 in pieces before I thought to take photos. 1891106_10203451816558928_1550904804_n.jpg1653375_10203451816638930_355205573_n.jpg

Hey Johnny, I got some help on another Fourm... Basically the consensus is that is some thing in the rear end. I pulled the hydro pump and it was broken. I have a used one being sent to me.. I will let you know once that one is in if it fixed it all. The old one looks simple to rebuild.
