JD 336 baler with 30 kicker, pan won't return

Hello.
Having some issues with the kicker where the pan won't return. We've tried adjusting all we can to no avail. Will work in the shop and then doesn't in the field. I suspect it may be the ejector valve as other threads have suggested.

If someone can give me a list of things to check, that would help alot. I'm a bit reluctant to disassemble the ejector valve to lubricate it but risk does have reward. Presently, we are just letting the bales slide up a piece of plywood and pulling them off manually...talk about old school!!

Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. FYI...I've already read the threads below from a different forum and am just trying to gain additional information.

There is a cover with a spring under it that some times sticks. Its on the same side of the valve as the rod that adjusts the distance. It is held by 2 allen screws I think. Sometimes I have had that get gummed up and it affect the kicker. I clean the spring shaft and all and add some grease.
