Guys,

My father has a John Deere 3520 and we are reaching wits end with this thing.. It constantly throws the Err 01 code and wont move.. Then ya crawl under it and back the potentiometer up a little more and it will work for a bit and then crash again.. It has already had the controller and both pots replaced.. It's going back to the shop again.. Warranty runs out at the end of next month and we are seriously considering dumping this machine in favor of a more robust drive line control.. I'm about out of ideas here.. I took it out to the deer lease this weekend to do some light food plot work and spent more time on my back in the dirt than pulling a disc.. Has anyone had this problem consistently and been able to get it resolved?

Your guidance on next steps is surely appreciated.. It's a fantastic little machine when it actually works, but we dont have any confidence in it anymore..

In case you didn't look it up, Err01 is very common. It's a simple warning to be more careful where you put your right foot. If/when you push the forward and reverse pedals simultaneously, it throws an Err01. I get one almost every time I use the tractor, simply because the two pedals are so close together. I just wait for it to self-clear, and remind myself (again) to pay a little more attention where I put my right foot.

If however you're getting a constant Err01 that won't clear - or a chronic Err01 that keeps coming back - warranty coverage isn't guaranteed. Don't for any reason tell the dealer that you've been tweaking on it yourself. Mechanicals are covered for two years, but electrical/electronic only for the first year. I found that out the hard way, when a MFWD sensor switch failed when mine was about a year and a half old. Switch was only $85, but labor to replace it came in over $400. I claimed warranty because tractor was less than 2 yrs old, they said "read the fine print". Electronics only one year.

Anyway - by "potentiometer", I'm thinking you mean position sensor. I'm more inclined to think pedal position. That is, one pedal may have slipped on its connecting rod and is not returning fully to its "home" position. This I believe is a mechanical adjustment; moving the pedal arm on its shaft, rather than even touching the position sensor. This specific issue has not yet happened to my 3730, but I've already experienced it on my X500 hydrostat pedal. Fixed it in 15 minutes with a socket wrench.
